Created in 1079 by William I (William the Conqueror) for deer hunting, the New Forest is a fascinating area of 150 square miles of beautiful ancient woodland and wilderness on the South Coast of England. As well as being an area of outstanding natural beauty, it still retains great agricultural, ecological and historical significance, with local inhabitants still enjoying ancient rights to graze their ponies, cattle and donkeys on the open Forest.
Located between Bournemouth and Southampton, with Salisbury to the North, and the Isle of Wight sitting in the Solent to the south, the New Forest is easily accessed from all parts of the UK. The A337 road takes visitors from Junction 1 of the M27 to the famous yachting town of Lymington and along the coast. Bournemouth and Southampton airports are both growing rapidly and Brockenhurst, one of the forest's main towns, is connected to the main London Waterloo trainline. The New Forest's excellent transport connections add to the area's attraction as a conference destination. For further details click here.
The New Forest is probably not the location to choose for an intense session of work. It would be a waste to come to this area and not take part in the leisure activities on offer, ranging from Mountain Bike Treasure Hunts to Sailing on the Solent.
